Hello Andy, I went through some posts of yours from 2006 about NSCA certification. I checked their website but still dont know if CSCS includes nutrition (or weight management). You seem to know a lot about these things, could you give a hint where to look for internationally acknowledged Nutrition specialist cert., please? I have sound background in weight training but not nutrition in detail. Thank you, Katerina (Europe)

Hi Andy, I am responding to your comments to a Carrington on the Tribe. I have played and coached tennis for 25 years and would like to train athletes and non-athletes. I have a personal trainer (CSCS) and he thinks NASM is better. I have been reading your impressions of NASM and was wondering which personal training program would be best for me. I have a Master's Degree and have had all my pre-med courses, but many, many years ago. I love to learn, but not sure if I'm test savvy anymore. To be honest, I just want to legitimize myself to do more with the USTA, etc. What do you recommend? Kathy

Yes, using narcotics to help control back pain is "funny" and "true," except that after 4 years on doctor-prescribed narcotics, I believe I'm hooked and now have to quit, and my back isn't any better. The doctor never even bothered to tell me these pills were habit forming and narcotics! Hydrocodone = Vicodine, Tramadal, Soma etc.

So jokes aside, I'm looking for something that will help. Chinese acupressure has helped tremendously, but I have to travel to New York City to find real Chinese people to do this. Now I have to find something that will help me kick the pills AND repair my back after almost 18 years of injury, weakness and pain. Anyone who has any ideas can email me directly at ctodd1000@gmail.com. I'm near Durham NC and Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. Thanks. Catherine S. Todd's

Hey Andy I saw one of your articles in a magazine called Exercise For Men.My question is how much will I lose if I stop bench pressing and just do push up? The reason is my chest is already big and I need to develop or work on other parts of my body to catch up to my chest. I have been lifting weights for years and sometimes its hard to change a work out after being in a fix for so many years. Your response will be greatly appreciated Respectfully Fred Frost, Brooklyn, New York

Hi Andy-I am a young woman in my twenties, who always naturally had a small frame and was active until I began grad school. I quit smoking recently and it happened to be the same time that I began graduate school (a year and a half ago). Being in school full time, working fulltime, and holding down an internship meant that I was doing more sitting than I had done in the past (I was often sitting and driving to class or sitting and studying, etc.) and having been a former heavy smoker meant that I did not have the cardiovascular endurance to do cardio workouts to the extent that I felt I needed to in order to counter the weight gain that accompanied my new lifestyle. I have since built up the stamina and am looking to structure a routine that will significantly reduce my current level of body fat. I have made it a priority to make the time for this because it's important to me. My old workouts were not giving me results and I am a little bit unsure what the best way to get to my goals would be. What do you recommend? Thanks!

Hi Andy - First let me say that you have a great web site - extremely informative. Now for my question, I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes 2 1/2 years ago and first was put on pills but that did not regulate my sugars well enough so about 9 months ago I was put on insulin. Every time I take a shot (2 shots per day of 70/30 insulin) I am putting on weight. I have gained about 30 lbs in the past 6-9 months. Totally unhappy I went to my doctor who put me on Byetta (2 shots of 5mg per day) to aid in weight loss. The Byetta is helping me to maintain my weight but no luck in losing it. Any ideas on anything that would help in the weight loss ? I go to the gym (although not enough) and I work a lot ... I would appreciate your advice. Thank you ... Pattie

I am a 50 year old woman, as of December 2005, and I am looking for a multi vitamin. I have been told that as I get older my body needs more calcium, iron and other vitamins and minerals. I prefer to take one multi vitamin rather than separate iron, calcium, vitamin C supplements. There are so many to choose from I hope you can recommend a natural vitamin that isn't hard to digest. Also, please let me know when is the best time to take the vitamin. Thank you. Aida - Brooklyn, NY

I have a question about fitness shoes. In the 1970's I had a pair of Earth Shoes, which had a recessed heal that was supposed to improve posture. I have also seen shoes on mbt-info.com that claim to be beneficial to the back, abs, and leg muscles. Do you know anything about either of these products? Diane New York city

I have a question. I'm getting confused about the process of fat metabolism. There's all this stuff about how to get into the target heart rate range to burn fat opposed to 'glycogen' (what is that?)....... and I've known about all you say for years. What is the answer? Do you metabolize fat at certain heart rates or when the body is at a caloric deficit or both or????? Sparkle, California

Someone told me that mixing cardio and weight training in one session may not be good. Also it is best to do cardio in the morning without eating. What is your take on that? Fara, New York City
